This video will guide you through the installation process of GFI WebMonitor, starting with various deployment options, continuing with system requirements and with the installation process itself.

GFI WebMonitor can be deployed in two ways: Gateway mode and Simple Proxy mode.

In Gateway mode, the product is designed to be deployed on an Internet gateway with two network cards, one linked to the local network being served, and the second connected to the Internet.

In Simple Proxy mode, the product can be deployed on any machine that has Internet access. But in this case, it will function as a Web Proxy so you need to configure each client machine to use the GFI WebMonitor server as a web proxy for HTTP and HTTPs protocols. The easiest way to do this is using the WPAD GFI WebMonitor has built-in WPAD server functionality, so you simply need to enable the automatic discovery of proxy servers on your client machines. In domain environments, this setting can be regulated via GPO.

Since GFI WebMonitor works as a gateway or web proxy, all web traffic will be processed by the product. Consequently, the system requirements for ensuring smooth operations depend on the amount of requests per day that the server needs to handle.

For smaller environments, 32 Bit architectures can be used, running Windows workstation or Server operating systems, with a minimum of 2 GHz processor and 4 GB of RAM.

For larger environments, we recommend the use of 64 Bit architectures running Windows Server operating systems on multicore CPU and a minimum of 8 GB of RAM. GFI WebMonitor supports Windows Vista and newer workstation operating systems; and Windows 2003 and newer server operating systems, both 32 Bit and 64 Bit architectures.

If your business already uses GFI WebMonitor, the installation process starts by detecting older GFI WebMonitor instances and its prerequisites. If an older instance is detected, the installation kit automatically imports previous settings before the process is complete. If no previous version is detected, the installation will automatically proceed to the next step. If there are any missing setup prerequisites, the installation kit automatically installs them. Note that some of the prerequisites might run in separate installation processes and have distinct user interfaces.

During the installation process, very little user intervention is needed. You are presented with options to check for a newer build or to configure different installation folders. You must also read and accept the end user license agreement. Once these steps are complete, the installation will deploy files and registry values as needed.

As soon as the installation process is complete, the Post-Install Wizard starts. The wizard guides you through the initial configuration of the product and helps getting you up and running in no time. To help you along the way, the wizard describes each step and details any applicable options. You can also opt to simply use the defaults.

In all, you only need to enter the credentials that will be used by the GFI WebMonitor service. The first step involves choosing the deployment model: Gateway mode or Simple Proxy mode. Next comes licensing, followed by the option to enable HTTPs scanning, database configuration, credentials and email configuration. Thanks for watching this video
