Adds SMS gateway, faxes in PDF format, and support for Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003
GFI, developer of the market-leading GFI FAXmaker fax server range, has launched a new version of GFI FAXmaker for Exchange, 10. Version 10’s key feature is its inbuilt SMS gateway that enables network users to send SMS messages from their desktop; this allows them to easily contact business colleagues and associates who are on the road or away from their desk. GFI FAXmaker for Exchange 10 supports Windows Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2003, and also includes the facility for users to receive faxes in PDF format.
SMS gateway: GFI FAXmaker embraces mobile messaging
Short message service, known as SMS or texting and used mainly in Europe and Asia, has become an extremely popular way of sending personal messages. However, SMS also has several applications in the corporate environment:
Although anybody with a mobile phone can send an SMS, GFI FAXmaker’s SMS gateway offers many advantages. Through it, users can type and send SMS messages much faster from their computer (rather than using their mobile phone pad) and can also use the corporate email address book for recipient mobile numbers. The SMS gateway grants organizations central control of SMS usage. A company can also benefit from application integration: Because GFI FAXmaker integrates seamlessly with Exchange Server, any application that can generate emails can now send notifications via the SMS gateway, meaning that organizations can easily SMS-enable any corporate application.
“The immense popularity, high reach and immediacy of SMS makes it well-suited to many business uses,” said Nick Galea, GFI CEO. “GFI FAXmaker now unlocks the power of SMS to the enterprise: Its SMS gateway enables companies to leverage SMS in their organization in a cost-effective, practical and controlled manner.”
GFI FAXmaker’s SMS gateway implements an SMS server that can use multiple mobile phones. Alternatively, users can subscribe to an Internet-based SMS service.
Receive faxes in PDF format
The latest version of GFI FAXmaker allows faxes to be received in PDF – this permits GFI FAXmaker users to view faxes in their PDF viewer and forward them to external parties (who do not have a GFI FAXmaker viewer). Faxes in PDF format are also easy to integrate with document management and text archival systems.
Supports Exchange 2003 and Windows 2003
GFI FAXmaker for Exchange 10 includes full support for both Exchange Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003. GFI FAXmaker has been updated to take full advantage of Windows 2003 new features, and supports the Windows 2003 server modem drivers (which removes the two-line limitation posed by using earlier Windows drivers).
“Microsoft is excited to work with GFI to extend the capabilities of the Exchange 2003 platform,” said Kevin McCuistion, director of Exchange marketing at Microsoft Corp. “With GFI FAXmaker, GFI will offer Exchange administrators smooth, administration-free fax serving.”
Other new features
GFI FAXmaker for Exchange 10 also incorporates the following new features:
Standard GFI FAXmaker for Exchange features include a multi-line fax server, inbound fax routing, print to fax driver for Windows, support for server-based rendering of Office documents, fax management features and more. GFI FAXmaker for Exchange is the most competitively priced fax server on the market: A 25-user version sells for $825 and a 100-user version sells for $1995.
