GFI, leading provider of Windows-based network and content security products, and Kaspersky Labs, an international data security software developer, have announced that the Kaspersky Labs antivirus technology will be offered as part of GFI’s leading email security product, GFI MailSecurity for Exchange/SMTP.

GFI MailSecurity for Exchange/SMTP 8 is an email content security product that uses multiple antivirus engines (two of which – Norman and BitDefender – are bundled with the product, while another two – including Kaspersky – are optional), exploit detection, an HTML threats engine, and content and attachment checking to scan incoming and outgoing email for viruses, exploits and attacks. The recently released version 8 includes many key features, the most notable of which is its new Trojan and executable analyzer.

Integration with Kaspersky Antivirus will considerably expand GFI MailSecurity’s antivirus defenses, providing users with another choice of virus-scanning engine, for added protection. This development will allow GFI MailSecurity users to benefit from Kaspersky Labs’ renowned engineering capability and their widely respected antivirus engine that is ICSA-certified and has won awards from various IT magazines, such as PC Magazine, PC World, Computer Buyer and Byte. Kaspersky Antivirus is well known for the unsurpassed depth of its object scanning, the high rate at which new virus signatures are released, and its unique heuristic technology that effectively neutralizes unknown viruses.

"GFI MailSecurity is one of the few software solutions defending corporate email systems that combines several antivirus technologies. The unique characteristics of Kaspersky Antivirus successfully adds to the functionality of our product and allows us to provide our customers with the highest possible level of protection against malicious code," said Nick Galea, GFI CEO. “Also, the reasonable pricing of this module makes it affordable to have a third virus engine over and above the two already included in the product.”

"Today, email is by far the most popular means used to spread malicious programs. With the corporate sector especially hit hard by viruses, annually suffering significant losses that include more than just material damage. For this reason, full-scale security for all IT-infrastructure elements is crucial for it to function reliably. We are pleased to work with GFI in integrating Kaspersky Antivirus into the GFI MailSecurity system. Doing so will doubtlessly contribute to the high level of virus protection received by users of this popular solution," noted Vitaly Bezrodnykh, Kaspersky Labs Commercial Director.
