GFI DownloadSecurity supports Microsoft ISA Server 2004

July 13, 2004 - 12:00

GFI has today released an update to GFI DownloadSecurity 6, to support the newly available Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004. GFI DownloadSecurity for ISA Server 2004 provides customers with a rich content security solution that examines downloaded files for malicious content and viruses. The solution also gives network administrators more control over the files that users are allowed to retrieve from HTTP and FTP sites.

ISA Server 2004, an advanced application layer firewall, VPN and Web cache solution, provides customers with deep content inspection capabilities. GFI DownloadSecurity extends that functionality with: multiple antivirus engines, assuring higher detection rate and faster response to new viruses; the ability to quarantine downloads based on file type and user; a Trojan and executable scanner, to detect malicious executables; and network-wide blocking capabilities for Java applets and ActiveX controls.

"The ISA Server platform provides excellent application protection capabilities, and GFI DownloadSecurity builds on that functionality to provide us with even better content filtering and antivirus capabilities to guard against new and emerging threats,” said one GFI DownloadSecurity user, Jorge Crastz, IT Director at Baby Lulu, Inc. “This is a great solution because users in our network are still able to surf the Web, but with limitations on what types of files can be downloaded – and probably auto-installed! – on their PC."

“Customers have told us they need powerful solutions to protect their business applications against malicious content and viruses,” said David Gardner, business development manager of the Security Business and Technology Unit at Microsoft Corp. “Deploying ISA Server 2004 with GFI DownloadSecurity antivirus and content filtering technologies can help customers better protect their on-line assets.”

How GFI DownloadSecurity for ISA Server 2004 works
Users do not notice GFI DownloadSecurity until they download a file: Then GFI DownloadSecurity displays a download progress dialog box and the download proceeds. Once the download is complete, GFI DownloadSecurity scans the file for viruses. If the file has no viruses and does not trigger a rule set by the security administrator, the user receives it immediately. If the file triggers a rule, it is put into quarantine for administrator approval. Once approved, the file is sent to the user as an email attachment or link. If the file is rejected, the user is notified. More product information and the freeware version can be found at http://www.gfi.com/dsec/.

Pricing and specifications
GFI DownloadSecurity pricing starts at US$315 for 25 users; pricing includes a year of free antivirus engine updates. GFI DownloadSecurity was built from the ground up to work with ISA Server 2004. It links in as an ISAPI extension and can leverage features such as alerts, reporting and more that are already found in ISA Server 2004. No changes to the network configuration are required.
