Enhancements to GFI MailSecurity 10 offers the industry's most comprehensive email security solution

May 11, 2006 - 12:00

London, UK – While 98 percent of organizations reported implementing an antivirus solution, nearly 84 percent reported a virus attack at least once over the course of a year, according to the 2005 FBI Computer Crime Survey. GFI Software, an international leader and developer of network security, content security and messaging software, offers a unique email security solution that hosts multiple antivirus engines from different vendors. GFI Software announced today the most comprehensive email security solution offering on the market, GFI MailSecurity 10, which features a new antivirus engine, GRISOFT´s AVG Antivirus, guaranteeing a higher detection rate and faster response to new viruses, and RSS quarantine feeds, providing more convenient quarantine monitoring.

The addition of GRISOFT´s AVG Antivirus brings a company with 15 years of experience in the security software industry, employing some of the world's leading experts in security software, specifically in the areas of virus analysis and detection. AVG Antivirus adds to the already extensive library of Bitdefender, Kaspersky, McAfee and Norman, increasing the number of virus scanning engines to five. With five antivirus engines, GFI MailSecurity 10 has access to the most up-to-date virus signature updates from any vendor and will disseminate them the quickest, providing users with the best approach to detect and neutralize viruses, worms, Trojans and other malware before they enter into the corporate network.

"Today it isn't just the virus engine technology which differentiates between vendors; rather, it is the team – the people – behind the virus definition files. Speedy reaction is key in identifying a virus, producing the virus signature and releasing it to the customer," said David Vella, Product Manager, GFI MailSecurity. "By having multiple virus engines we have different reaction times from each team. Like that, our customers will be always protected by the antivirus vendor team which delivers the signature files first in case of such virus outbreaks."

For zero-day viruses and other new malware without developed signatures from antivirus engines, such as new malicious executable files, customized trojans targeted toward companies, dangerous email content and emails with malicious scripts, GFI MailSecurity 10 deploys five additional layers of protection. GFI MailSecurity 10’s attachment and content checking rules enable administrators to quarantine attachments based on content and file types. GFI MailSecurity’s Trojan & Executable Scanner detects unknown malicious executables, such as trojans, by analyzing what an executable does. GFI MailSecurity 10 can also protect proprietary information by scanning for information leaks, such as an employee emailing sensitive information to his personal mailbox or third parties.

RSS feeds for quarantine
RSS feeds are now available with GFI MailSecurity 10, automatically notifying administrators of quarantined email through their RSS reader. Administrators can monitor their quarantine without having to login to the quarantine console; instead, administrators are notified of quarantined email through RSS feeds. This ability significantly reduces the amount of time administrators spend by automatically updating them on email quarantine status.

Availability
GFI MailSecurity 10 technology will be generally available in Q3 2006. Product pricing and additional information on the solution is expected in Q2 2006. Any company purchasing or upgrading to GFI MailSecurity 10 during Q3 2006 will as a special introduction offer receive free AVG Antivirus updates for initial one year (after the purchase date).
