GFI EventsManager wins Redmond Magazine's 2007 Readers' Choice Award

London, UK – GFI EventsManager has been recognized for excellence and awarded the 2007 Readers’ Choice Award in the Best Security Auditing Product category by Redmond Magazine, GFI Software announced today. The 2007 Winner and Preferred Product awards, which appeared in the April issue, are presented to vendors in 45 different product categories, ranging from antivirus and network management to firewalls and backup utilities.

GFI EventsManager allows you to monitor network security and performance through event log management. Data is collected from all devices that use Windows event logs, W3C or Syslog and key data and critical issues can be identified thanks to in-built and custom rules and filtering. GFI EventsManager provides real-time alerting when critical system and security events arise thereby helping administrators to easily identify areas that require immediate attention. Event log management is also important for legal compliance and for forensic investigations.

The Redmond Readers’ Choice Awards are truly the voice of the readers. The Readers’ Choice survey form is sent out to thousands of readers and responses are collected during a two-week period in January. After gathering all the results, a team of editors examines the rankings looking for any unusual patterns. Once they’re satisfied that the list is a clean and accurate representation of the readers’ true favorites, the results are posted.

“I like working through the responses from the Readers’ Choice survey and examining the comments they make on the individual products,” says executive editor Lafe Low, who has coordinated the awards process for the last several years. “It’s sort of like having a conversation with our readers. It’s important to appreciate that this is indeed direct from our readers. The winners are all chosen by our readers – period. I salute GFI EventsManager. Redmond’s readers have put you on top.”

Research shows that 44% of companies do not perform event log management, primarily quoting sheer volume of data to manage as well as the cryptic nature of the information as the main reasons. With GFI EventsManager, the workload is heavily minimised allowing administrators to spend their time evaluating rather than just collecting data.

“GFI EventsManager is an essential tool for monitoring your network,” said Andre Muscat, Director, Network Security Products, at GFI. “Most administrators are intimidated or unaware of the extensive knowledge available within their event logs. However, with events and logs generated by nearly every IT component, they are the most effective and reliable source of information on network activity. With this product we have lessened the complexity of event log management and handed administrators with a solution that will help them manage their networks more effectively with immediate effect,” added Mr Muscat.

More experienced IT managers know that the data contained in event logs is their most valuable resource in examining system failures and security breaches. Companies are now also legally bound to retain and proactively review their event logs as part of their daily business operations. The retention of secure archives of events in their native format is critical in providing evidence of legal compliance. With a database operations module, which can be purchased separately, you can collect data from multiple sites into a central location. Through Database Operations you can manage the size of the database – without the need for manual intervention – not only through centralization but by also being able to export events and back them up as needed. GFI EventsManager also helps you to become Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) compliant.
