GFI Software survey of more than one thousand enterprises reveals users’ antivirus software preferences
GFI Software, a leading IT solutions provider for small and medium-sized enterprises, today announced the results of a wide-ranging survey of more than one thousand enterprises – 67% of which had fewer than 500 seats – which examines the likes and dislikes of small and medium-sized (SME) enterprise IT administrators with regard to leading antivirus solutions.
GFI surveyed users of 19 leading antivirus software vendors that compete with its own GFI VIPRE® Antivirus solution. Overwhelmingly, SMEs expressed that the primary driver for their antivirus purchasing decision is the level of performance impact that the solutions cause on their machines. In fact, 64% of respondents said reduced performance impact (e.g. CPU and memory usage) was the feature that would make them switch from their current antivirus product to a competitor. This was the top response by more than 12 percentage points, indicating a level of frustration with the bloated, layered approach to antivirus that most vendors provide.
Unlike other solutions, which are essentially retooled versions of existing antivirus products with multiple layers of capabilities added on to keep up with emerging threats, GFI’s award-winning VIPRE Antivirus solution was built on efficient, core virus detection code, making it a fast and powerful threat engine with low impact on system resources. It is a next-generation malware detection solution designed by administrators for administrators.
“As we’ve learned from customers over the years, inefficiency is the enemy of security when you’re talking about antivirus,” said Alex Eckelberry, general manager, GFI’s Security Business Unit. “VIPRE is built like a sports car, with no unnecessary frills to get in the way – just raw speed and power to detect viruses and block them while the user is working on other things.”
