Umbrella Medical Systems Gets a Shot in the Arm with GFI MAX RemoteManagement

GFI Software’s remote monitoring and management solution enables managed service provider to automate its support, improve customer service and grow its business

GFI Software, a leading IT solutions provider for small and medium-sized enterprises, today announced the deployment results of its GFI MAX RemoteManagement (MAX RM) solution by Umbrella Medical Systems, a premier healthcare information technology solutions provider. By automating several key IT processes, MAX RM provides Umbrella with more immediate insight and access into its clients’ networks and systems, improving the crucial metrics of uptime and reliability for its healthcare practitioner customers. In turn, this saves the managed service provider (MSP) valuable man hours and budget dollars and improves employee morale by reducing out-of-hours staff support requirements.

GFI’s MAX RM helps Umbrella Medical Systems to design, integrate, support and manage networks and systems for healthcare organizations. Founded in 2007, Umbrella has seen eighty percent annual growth, in part due to the increases in efficiency provided by GFI’s solution. As a full service MSP and systems integrator, Umbrella Medical Systems is responsible for services such as providing remote support and disaster recovery. MAX RM offers 24/7 remote monitoring and management technology that gives updates and alerts from client servers and workstation in real time, all from a single dashboard. The product also provides “daily health checks” on backups, AV status, workstations, event logs, disk space, Exchange and other critical system elements to proactively alert users to potential risks. This provides the opportunity to plan after-hours maintenance to avoid significant downtime or network outages which can be especially troublesome for healthcare providers.

“GFI MAX RemoteManagement has without a doubt contributed to our growth as a company,” said Trent Peters, Principal and senior technology engineer, Umbrella Medical Systems. “We can now automate tasks that were previously labor intensive and focus on more important priorities. We have seen a decrease in our technician-to-workstation ratio, which has contributed to an increase in employee morale and productivity. MAX RM’s automation has also reduced costs by more than $90,000 per year, which has helped us become a more scalable and profitable business. To top it all off MAX RM has been a valuable tool in our sales process; providing clear and tangible reporting to demonstrate the quality of the real time monitoring has increased our close rate with engaged prospects.”

MAX RM’s patch management and vulnerability scanning tools allow Umbrella Medical Systems to use the same GFI MAX dashboard to centrally manage Microsoft patches and security updates as well as product updates for products such as Java and Adobe Reader. The vulnerability scan tool also allows for the discovery and remediation of previously unknown security concerns that could greatly impact healthcare providers.

“The ability to deploy patches and to track and remediate security issues helps immensely with HIPAA compliance and security best practices,” said Peters. “For the healthcare industry especially, any downtime leaves physicians, nurses, and administrative staff treading water. GFI MAX RM gives us the ability to determine potential risks and fix them before they can affect cash flow, thereby increasing our overall efficiency and focus on giving the superior service that our customers need and deserve.”
