Available as a physical appliance, VMware virtual machine or as a hosted service, MailEssentialsComplete enables SMBs to defend against email-borne malware, phishing attacks and spam by choosing the solution best for them

Interop Conference, LAS VEGAS – May 10, 2011 – GFI Software today launched – in the US region – GFI MailEssentials Complete, a comprehensive anti-spam, anti-phishing and email security solution for small and medium businesses (SMBs). MailEssentials Complete utilizes best-of-breed software and hardware to give organizations an email security solution they can deploy using the delivery model of their choice, whether on premise, as a physical or virtual appliance or as a hosted service.

“SMBs are demanding in how they deploy email security solutions. They want a solution that best meets their needs and best works within their IT infrastructure,” said Alex Eckelberry, general manager of GFI’s Security Business Unit. “Whether it’s on-premise software installed on the mail server, a physical or virtual gateway appliance, a hosted service or a hybrid of all delivery models, organizations want increased flexibility, continuity and redundancy from their email security strategies. With MailEssentials Complete, we are providing customers with access to solutions how they want them.”

The increasing volume of email-borne threats — coupled with an organization’s need to balance security and infrastructure costs — is a growing burden on administrators looking to find the optimum and most cost-effective approach to email security.

Flexibility is key to fully servicing the SMB security market. Research conducted last year by GFI shows that nearly 35 percent of SMBs surveyed use a combination of email security on an internal mail server and at the gateway. More than 40 percent agree that it is good security practice to run multiple security solutions in their organization. Nearly 40 percent of SMBs, however, rate themselves as “neutral” to “not satisfied” with their existing solution, and a quarter indicated that they are looking to add a gateway device or SaaS offering to augment or to replace an existing solution. Additionally, Osterman Research earlier this year found that a combination of physical and virtual servers was the preferred approach for managing email servers.

According to Gartner, buyers’ requirements are more likely to be met if vendors offer a wider choice of solutions. The IT research firm concluded, “Although software is the primary installed [email security] solution and appliances are the most common new platform, virtual appliances are increasing in appeal as organizations consolidate onto common hardware platforms, such as blade servers. …Vendors that can offer a broader range of solutions are more likely to meet buyers' future requirements.”1

“SMBs have a strong understanding of security and the challenges they face in defending their networks,” added Eckelberry. “MailEssentials Complete is built on proven email security technology at a competitive price available through multiple delivery options. This is the way forward, and we believe this is the key approach to helping SMBs implement the IT security they need.”

Flexible Delivery Options for Advanced Email Security
GFI MailEssentials Complete provides users with best-of-breed malware detection and a spam-capture rate greater than 98 percent with low false positives. GFI MailEssentials Complete is available as a hardware appliance, a virtual appliance or as a hosted online service.

MailEssentials Complete Appliance offers SMBs the choice of a commercial-grade appliance or a VMware-based virtual appliance. Designed to be up and running in less than 15 minutes, the physical appliance features proven software on high-quality hardware and comes with a three-year warranty at no additional cost. The virtual appliance provides the same level of protection and functionality as the physical appliance, and is ideal for users who prefer to provision a virtual server rather than install an additional hardware device.

MailEssentials Complete Online enables SMBs to benefit from all the protection that the physical and virtual appliances provide without the need to install and manage the solution onsite. GFI MailEssentials Complete Online users also receive additional functionality, including an email continuity service through which they can access and send email if their internal infrastructure is offline.

“MailEssentials Complete will be a strong addition to our email security solutions portfolio,” said Tom Matson, vice president of Enterprise Sales with GHA Technologies Inc., a GFI reseller partner. “It provides the email security SMBs need but often lack, and its multiple deployment options ensure there’s a solution to suit all our customers.”
