GFI EndPointSecurity 2012 Puts Policy Back in the Hands of the IT Department

January 16, 2012 - 12:00

Updated endpoint protection and control solution delivers powerful new IT policy and device management features to simplify the delivery of device-driven security

GFI Software today announced the release of GFI EndPointSecurity 2012, a major new release of the award-winning endpoint device management and security solution. Recognizing evolving customer demand for stronger IT policy control, the new release includes many features that aim to ensure that Windows-based devices are automatically co-opted into the IT policy framework, secured and managed the moment they connect to the network for the first time. The product updates also seek to combat and manage the growing creep of end-user purchased devices in the workplace.

The launch of GFI EndPointSecurity 2012 comes as research from the Ponemon Institute revealed that 77 percent of respondents have experienced a data breach in the past year, with insecure endpoint and mobile devices cited as one of the most common reasons for data loss or theft within the organization.

GFI EndPointSecurity 2012 allows IT administrators to centrally manage a company’s servers and workstations from a single console, controlling access, activity, reporting and security through a small push agent that is automatically loaded onto all Windows devices. This ensures that all devices and users are protected and provisioned within the existing IT framework, even when the user has brought their own device, such as a laptop, into the office and connected it to the corporate network. Access controls can be determined by user, workgroup, domain or even by device, while access and permissions can be enabled on a temporary or permanent basis, and changed on-the-fly to ensure rogue or lost devices are quarantined, restricted or cut-off immediately.

New features and functionality in GFI EndPointSecurity 2012 include:

  • Encryption for Removable Devices – Building on the Data Loss Prevention (DLP) features of GFI EndPointSecurity, administrators can now specify encryption for all removable storage devices including USB keys and portable hard drives using a strong AES 128-bit algorithm. Mobile users can still access encrypted drives via the Traveler companion application, which allows authorized users to access encrypted volumes while working offline
  • Automated Update– GFI EndPointSecurity auto-updates via GFI’s servers in the background, allowing for seamless distribution and installation of updates and patches that remains transparent to the end user
  • Improved Database Management – GFI EndPointSecurity 2012 overcomes a major bottleneck in database technology – the 4GB database limit by SQL Server Express – by automatically rolling over reports and logs into a new database when the previous one nears this limit. This not only improves performance but allows IT administrators to maintain extensive historical archives of activity reports and other important security logs for regulatory and research purposes
