Latest version continues company’s push to extend support
for popular third-party applications and devices, enhanced integration

GFI Software™ today announced the release of GFI LanGuard 2015™, bringing a range of enhancements to the company’s award-winning network vulnerability scanning and patch management solution. GFI LanGuard 2015 extends support for network device vulnerability assessment, improves detection for missing patches – including added support for Apache Webserver, MySQL and other popular applications – and improves integration with Active Directory.

GFI LanGuard has established success as a comprehensive tool that provides network and system administrators with the ability to manage all of their patching and network management needs through a single, intuitive and easy-to-use interface, without the need for other update tools.

Enhanced features of GFI LanGuard 2015 include:

  • Expanded network vulnerability assessment: GFI has expanded LanGuard’s vulnerability assessment for network devices to include hardware from D-Link, the market leader in enterprise Wi-Fi access points and the 14th supported vendor of network devices within LanGuard, bringing to nearly 2,700 the total number of network devices now supported.

  • Improved detection for missing patches: extends detection and reporting of missing patches for more applications – including Apache Webserver, MySQL, VMware Workstation, VMware Player and other popular applications – that are critical for network security. This detection occurs even if the patch deployment process cannot be automated, providing customers the most complete network patching status overview.

  • Improved integration with Active Directory: LanGuard 2015 gives customers a new wizard that synchronizes the LanGuard view of the network with the organization’s existing Active Directory structure, improving and simplifying visibility of network infrastructure and topology. LanGuard also now performs automatic cleanup of computers that are no longer part of the network, enhancing license slots re-usage.

“A network is as vulnerable as its weakest point, and therefore network devices such as routers, printers and switches must not be neglected,” said Cristian Florian, product manager at GFI Software. “GFI LanGuard 2015 continues to extend support for new third-party applications and devices and enhances integration with Active Directory infrastructure.”

The increasing importance of strong patch management and vulnerability assessment was recently confirmed by an independent survey of more than 1,000 U.S. employees from companies with up to 1,000 staff. Conducted by Opinion Matters, the research project examined the various ways that workers use company-provided computers and laptops for personal activities, and the direct impact such personal computer usage can have on an organization’s network security. The study revealed that the employers of more than one-third of those surveyed (38.6 percent) had suffered a major IT disruption caused by staff visiting questionable, non-work related web sites, resulting in malware infection and other related security issues. The study also revealed that nearly one-half of those surveyed (48 percent) use a personal cloud-based file storage solution (e.g., Dropbox, OneDrive, Box) for storing and sharing company data and documents.

These findings illustrate the need for businesses to incorporate comprehensive network vulnerability scanning and patch management solutions into their systems to help networks defend themselves against employee computer usage.

Pricing and Availability

GFI LanGuard 2015 is available immediately and will use a full annual subscription licensing model. Pricing starts at just $10 per node, for 250-499 nodes.
