In this video I'm going to show you how to quickly and easily acknowledge or adjust the severity of a security vulnerability within GFI LanGuard.
GFI LanGuard allows users to ignore or change predefined severity for security vulnerabilities to do this go to the dashboard vulnerabilities view. In the bottom right corner you'll see the Actions panel for an example on how to use the actions I've selected a low security vulnerability that generates when administrative shares are enabled on the scanned computer.
You can acknowledge or ignore the vulnerability, the difference between the two options is the following: When you acknowledge a vulnerability it will continue to be reported but it won't affect the vulnerability level for the computer anymore. When a vulnerability is ignored it won't be reported in all the future scans. So if you want to ignore the vulnerability you need to specify if the action should apply to the selected computers only or to the entire network. In this case the selection is Entire Network, you can ignore a vulnerability indefinitely or for a limited time frame and you can provide a reason on why you decided it's better to ignore this for now.
On the other hand you may not want this vulnerability present in your network, go to the Actions panel and select Change Severity and to make sure the fix gets higher priority, increase the severity level to Medium. All changes become effective only once a new scan is performed.
Missing updates can be ignored too. Open the Rules Manager in the Actions panel to Edit or Remove previously defined rules, you can group them by vulnerability names, target computers, action or time span.
I hope you found this video useful be sure to check out our other GFI LanGuard videos. Thanks for watching.
